Where to after?
If you really enjoyed your Taz sailing experience with SAILING IN THE CITY and are keen for more action, then here is some advice on how to continue sailing and having more fun!
Sailing Clubs
Joining a sailing club that has a junior section is a great way to continue sailing, you get to meet new friends, try out different boats and you should also have access to changing facilities within a sociable clubhouse. Some clubs offer RYA training course and own their own boats. Most clubs run racing but if you are not the competitive type then this can be a useful time to practice under rescue boat supervision.
Sailing School
Go to an RYA Recognised Training Centre that offers courses from the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme. You will receive expert tuition in supervised environment and at most Training Centres you can progress from Start Sailing courses to Advanced Technique and Racing Courses if you want to, and best of all you dont have to have your own boat!
Sea Cadets and Sea Scouts
These organisations offer sailing at many levels, from cruising to racing and events that focus on personal development as well as developing sailing skills that could count towards the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and other awards.
Type of Boats Available
There are lots of different types of sailing boats avaliable, from small singlehanded dinghies (with one sail for one person) to doublehanded dinghies (for two people with two or three sails, requiring lots of teamwork), to fast racing boats dinghies and big, bigger family sized boats for cruising trips and theres also tall ships for big adventures.
Sailing Books Available
The RYA publishes lots of books to help you discover what you already know about sailing and help you to learn new sailing stuff too!
We recommend the three books below as the best ones for you
SITC sailors at this stage. You can get them from any Chandlers (a shop that sells boat bits), some bookshops, the RYA Orders Hotline
