South West Scotland Sailing Association

Welcome to the South West Sailing Association development group page.

History: In the late 1950's the following clubs formed the SWSSA - Annandale (Lochmaben), Solway (Kippford), Kirkcudbright, Wigtown Bay (Isle of Whithorn) and Loch Ryan (Stranraer). At this time, the common principal racing class was GP14's, where all clubs had strong and active fleets in this class.

Over the years, yacht fleets established within all the coastal clubs and Dumfries Cruising Club joined the SWSSA. Galloway Activity Centre also joined, a commercial centre operating from Loch Ken, providing a large venue for some of he SWSSA events.

In 2011 the SWSSA became a Sailing Development Group, part of an RYA Scotland scheme. All bodies involved in sailing within Dumfries and Galloway are now part of the SWSSA.
