Western Isles Sailing
Western Isles Sailing (WIS) is a very enthusiastic sailing development group whose area covers the whole of Scotland's Outer Hebrides, stretching approximately 130 miles from the Isle of Lewis in the north to the Isle of Barra in the south.
Although the group was only formed in May 2011, with a weekend of meetings and training provided for members of the sailing community from all over the Western Isles, their progress has been rapid, with a series of face to face meetings and telephone conferences allowing full participation from as many members of the sailing, windsurfing, and community powerboating as possible, as well as the local authority sports development, outdoor education and the Active Schools teams. Western Isles Sailing was formally constituted in November 2011.
The group has a Sailing Development Group Co-ordinator, Toby Marshall, an experienced dinghy and keelboat racer and he would be delighted to hear from anyone wishing to take part in the group's activities, receive their notes and agendas, or find out about sailing in the Western Isles, and can be contacted on sdg5@ryascotland.org.uk.
