Club Development

Club and other voluntary sailing organisations areimportant for the sustainability of our sport. Information for clubs and other voluntary sailing organisations to help them develop their activities is available in this section.

Whilst training centres or foreign holidays may introduce many people to our sports, clubs are what keep people doing them in the long term. They turn an experience into a pastime and a passion. Without clubs all sport would struggle to exist. We put great effort into supporting over 150 clubs in Scotland.

Each club is different and has differing needs. We hope to be able to support clubs in addressing all of these aspects; whether it is advice on removing weed from their sailing area, support when engaging with the local authority to get their lease renewed or information about Health and Safety we are there to help.

The introduction of the Sailing Development Groups are intended to support clubs too. They are a forum of local people and organisations who can be drawn on for help and advice. They are supported by RYA Scotland and are seeking to develop relationships with key players in the community including Active Schools Coordinators, Local Authorities and sportscotland’s regional sporting partnerships.

We work with numerous partners including Sport Scotland, the RYA and the Scottish Sports Association to gather information, advice and best practice for clubs to use. In addition we have small grants that can support clubs to up skill their workforce.
