OnBoard to the Zones
This weekend (27th and 28th September) saw the first OnBoard team to compete in the Zone Championships. These championships were happening in all areas of the UK and the four sailors from Lowport Centre in Linlithgow entered the Scottish Championships in the new OnBoard toppers.
Harriett, Peter, Ryan and Blair have been sailing for two years at LowPort Centre in Linlithgow progressing from learning to sail to doing a bit of racing. As they mainly sail in Topaz’s and Taz’s they practised in the toppers for a couple of weeks.
The ‘fantastic four’ have had some extra coaching sessions with Peter Irwin, guest coach and hot shot 420 sailor over the past couple of weeks to get them ready for the championship.
The guys worked so hard and it was a steep learning curve as they had not been involved in any racing (other than fun racing) let alone a big championship.
Laurie Marsden who was coaching the regatta fleet told them that they all showed lots of potential and that they all had  a great refreshing attitude to the sport and it was very noticeable that they gave 110% in every race.
As a major part of the OnBoard programme is to keep the kids participating in the sport, it was great to show these youngsters the opportunities that are available to them.
