As The Green Blue, the environment programme for the Royal Yachting Association and the British Marine Federation, celebrates its first and very successful year in Scotland, they are delighted to announce and welcome Boyd Tunnock CBE as an ambassador for the project.

A well known yachtsman on the Clyde, Boyd said “I am delighted to become an ambassador for The Green Blue.  Sailing has been my love and hobby for many years.  The Green Blue advice makes common sense, we need to take care of our environment and help protect all types of sea life.”  Julia Christie, Project Officer for The Green Blue in Scotland, added that “his influence and standing in the yachting community can only enhance the project and help to encourage cruising and racing sailors alike to protect the cruising waters that we all enjoy so much.”

Boyd, is managing director (and grandson of the founder) of Thomas Tunnock Ltd – Scotland’s iconic biscuit manufacturers, famous for their teacakes and caramel wafers.  Sailing is one of Boyd’s great passions and he has raced his Moody ‘Lemarac’ (caramel spelt backwards!) extensively on the Clyde and West Coast of Scotland for many years.  Boyd has also provided his support and enthusiasm for many sailing events and organisations over the years, including the Clyde Cruising Club, the Bell Lawrie Scottish Series and the RNLI.  The Green Blue looks forward to working with Boyd and providing environmental advice to the participants of the events that he supports.

The Green Blue is the joint environmental initiative by the British Marine Federation and The Royal Yachting Association, focusing on awareness raising, practical projects and research.  This pro-active programme aims to educate and to inform the boating community about their potential impacts on the environment and what measures they can take to avoid or minimise them.  The Green Blue produces a wealth of free guides, publications and an interactive CD ROM to help you reduce your environmental impact whilst out on the water.  For more information and advice visit www.thegreenblue.org.uk
