Scottish Sailors bring home medals

Former RYA Scotland squad members Anna Burnet and Flora Stewart have won the Silver medal at the 470 Junior World Championships at Medemblik, Holland, whilst David Kohler took home bronze.

Anna and Flora were lying in third place but a fantastic win in the final race saw them move up to the silver medal position. Anna is currently studying at Southampton University whilst Flora is at Bath University and have been competing together since moving on from the 420 class.

“Nine months after moving into the 470, Anna and I are delighted to have taken silver at our first Junior World Championship. The competition was fierce, and winning the Medal Race was a great way to end the regatta. Our hard work over the winter has paid off” commented Flora Stewart at the end of the event.

David Kohler also put in a great performance in Holland, winning the bronze medal at the Men’s 470 Junior World Championships. David was lying outside of the medals going into the final race so needed to put in a strong performance to get into a medal position. By winning the final race he secured himself a spot on the podium and a bronze medal.

After just one month with his new crew, it looks like David has forged a good relationship with Phillip Sparks and both are looking set to improve over the coming years. As well as keeping busy with his own training, David is also the RYA Scotland 420 Squad Coach.
