Active Marina Launches In Scotland At Largs Yacht Haven
Largs Yacht Haven has now been officially recognised by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) as an Active Marina.
To kick off the summer programme Largs Yacht Haven ran an Active Marina Ladies Day on Wednesday (13 June). RYA Scotland was there to present them with their flags and banners and also to wish the ladies good luck with their day on the water. Upon arrival the ladies were greeted by their instructors for the day in bright sunshine, breeze and with warm bacon rolls. What more do you need for a perfect day sailing?
The aim of the day and the Active Marina programme is to help boat owners to make the most of their boat by increasing confidence and skill levels as well as helping them to meet new people in the marina. Two boats took to the water, one sail and one power, after the morning briefing at 9am to practice berthing (or parking to those non-sailors). After a superb lunch in Scotts@Largs restaurant, the ladies were then back out on the water for an action packed afternoon.
Scotland is such a fanatic place to go sailing and this was evident by the fact that the participants on the day had come from all over, including as far afield as Durham! Plans are underway to get more marinas in Scotland recognised as an Active Marina which will hopefully encourage more people to get out on their boats more and give them the confidence to travel a bit further to see more of the Scottish waters.
“Largs Yacht Haven is the first marina to become an Active Marina in Scotland which is a great achievement. After such great success with the ladies day we hope the rest of the summer programme is received with as much enthusiasm” commented Claire Caffrey, RYA Scotland Marketing Officer.
“The event was a great success and the feedback from all the ladies was really positive. In fact one comment was that they would have liked to have lunch out on the boat so there was less distraction from the work so that’s a good sign! It was such a great opportunity for me to put more faces to names and to spend some time with our customers. We can’t wait until the next event now!” said Carolyn Elder, Director of Largs Yacht Haven.
The next event on the programme will be taking place on Sunday 19th August which will be a RIB Cruise in Company. Leaving from Largs Yacht Haven and cruising to Port Bannatyne it promises to be an excellent day on the water. Expert instructors will be leading the cruise as well as offering advice, instruction and handy tips to all those taking part.
