 Sailing in the City Sessions!

Fun is the name of the game with SAILING IN THE CITY and lots off it! We like to play games both on and off the water to help young sailors develop new skills. The Instructors enjoy themselves as much as the kids setting new challenges, competitions, games and races.

SESSION DELIVERY

SITC sessions are delivered using innovative and dynamic teaching methods, where more emphasis is placed on the young sailors enjoying themselves and having fun with skill development as an outcome. The sessions are energetic with lots of games and challenges to nurture and promote experiential learning. SITC sessions follow the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme up to Stage 2 standard. At the end of each session young sailors receive an Information Pack filled with leaflets and guidance on how to continue sailing and Activity Books to test their new knowledge and prove how much they have learnt. They should also receive a certificate at the end of each session to prove to their friends and family what they have achieved.

TASTER SESSIONS

SITC delivers lots of short Taster Sessions where kids are introduced to the very basics of sailing while developing water confidence. Sessions can last from half a day to just an half an hour and anything in-between. On a typical taster session young sailors will learn about boat balance and trim while practicing how to steer and paddle a Taz dinghy, this could be done by going round marker buoys in the water, on a mini adventure, while racing to collect toys like ducks, octopuss, frogs and coloured balls or if the new young sailors are feeling brave they could stand up and have a wee dance in their Taz! The session generally finishes with a short sail, whether this is with an Instructor onboard or as an independent voyage with a new friend; its generally guaranteed to make you smile and squeal with excitement, which will make anyone onshore very jealous.

STAGE 1 COURSES

After completing a Taster session with SITC we hope that young sailors are up for more taztastic action, if so there may be the opportunity to progress onto a full day RYA Stage 1 course. Here young sailors learn more about how to control a sail and steer a boat across and through the wind, how to tie knots, name different parts of a Taz and gain a basic understanding of water safety. All of this is learnt with more games and activities set out by our enthusiastic Instructors.

STAGE 2 COURSE

At some venues SITC also offers RYA Stage 2 courses, which is delivered over two days. Here young sailors can learn more about how to control their boats speed and direction and about the rules of the water putting theory into practice - so they dont bump into other water users. They will learn what to do in the event of a capsize with is the opportunity to get wet and practice capsizing (normally a big favourite!) The Instructors will also teach young sailors more useful knots and the 5 essentials of sailing, by the end of this course you should have a basic wind awareness.

FOLLOW UP AND ALTERNATIVE SESSIONS

If required SITC can also deliver sessions specific to individual group needs in our Tazs for 8 14s, such as skill improvement or RYA Stage 3 courses. Where appropriate there is also the possibility of arranging Adult Training with our SITC Instructors and more suitable boats. SITC can cater for a maximum of 12 children per session (2 in each taz); the number of children participating per day depends on the type of session offered and the session timing
